New research has indicated that coffee consumption may be protective against periodontal bone loss. In a study of over 1,000 dentate males, researchers found no evidence that coffee consumption was harmful to periodontal health. However, they found that men with a higher coffee consumption had fewer teeth affected by periodontal bone loss than did participants who drank less coffee.
