Obesity and overweight have been associated with a poorer prognosis for several common cancers. However, the mechanisms underlying this link have not been fully understood for some types of cancers, including head and neck cancer. Now, researchers have found that obesity prior to diagnosis is associated with a fivefold increased risk of death from tongue cancer.
