Some 26 dental surgeons from all over Benin took part in a recent FDI continuing education seminar on ‘Quality assurance in dentistry’. Its objective was to help professionals implement quality management and monitoring procedures into their daily dental practice, via a step-by-step analysis of hygiene and asepsis procedures. The aim of quality assurance in dental practice is two-fold: improve oral health, safety of care, and increase patient satisfaction. The FDI seminar, held in Cotonou, on 4 and 5 July and involving dental surgeons from private practice, public health and the military, comprised two main themes. The first was ‘Managing risk in dental practice: the safe dental environment’, presented by Prof. Denis Bourgeois, Dean of the Faculty of Odontology, University LYON 1, President of the Group of French-speaking Dental Associations (GADEF) and Manager of the FDI Continuing Education Programme for Africa.
